    Hello Guys,

i'd like to do a lil research before i spend a lot of money on something i won't like. Im huge PvP fan and i like only those which requires mastering weapons, mods, etc so in one word: skills. Atm i play mostly Overwatch which i find amusing and correctly balanced. I've spent a lot of money on Warframe recently, but thats the reason i'm asking here around first, coz Warframe PvP is one of the biggest disappointment in years. If you tried it, you know why.

So i've read a few posts on these forums and it seems there are many dedicated, experienced players here. I also read some complaints about recent nerfs of weapons which require skills. I feel those who think it's a stupid trend that developers favor the numb masses over those who spend a lot of time to master some difficult aspects of a so called competitive game.

So here are the usual questions:
    - Does TF2 still has a good selection of weapons, abilities, play styles which require time to master?
    - Looking the trends of the last few months, is there a good chance to find enough experienced players to play with in the coming half year?
    - How does the messmaker(matchmaker) work?
    - Any mature, fresh, fun player groups to join to?

    Thanks,
    shi atsu

Welcome to the forums! The answer for your points is yes in my view.

Theres not a large amount of mods for weapons, but the weapon variety is well balanced and the pilot and weapon mod choices combine for different needs, some taking more time to master ( eg. Using grapple really well).

The underlying, most awesome thing is the maneoverability. Mastering this movement, in conjunction with map knowledge is a skill worth spending time on. Transforms pvp battles.. then theres the titans....

    Lots to master.

Plenty of groups to join, plenty of awesome players around.

    Where/what format you on?

Welcome to the community @shi atsu. Lots of things to do depending on what you're after. I'm on XBOX 1 so I've no knowledge of how things are on a PC. I'm sure someone that plays on the PC side will let you know what's what.

Welcome. I hope you pick up the game and like it.

I will give you my opinion on Overwatch compared to TF2. I find it slow, clunky with poor maneuverability game play wise compared to TF2.

If all you have or will have is your skills, you will do well in PvP modes Attrition, Live Fire, Pilots vs Pilots and the coliseum. You will not do well in Amped Hardpoint and Bounty Hunt unless you are playing against other "Skill" only players. Not so sure where you would fall in capture the flag as I have not played it. These games are more of a team effort with a tactical focus. Those that understand this and work together will dominate over individual minded "Skill" teams.

    - Does TF2 still has a good selection of weapons, abilities, play styles which require time to master? Yes, you will start with access to only those you earn as you progress or buy with credits earned from playing. Until you earn enough or progress you are fresh meat for the rest of us to pad our stats on.

    - Looking the trends of the last few months, is there a good chance to find enough experienced players to play with in the coming half year? Most likely, yes, the move to make Titanfall 2 more marketable to FPS players is a real focus at this time. The question will be if they have done enough to withstand attacks from Mass Effects and the other competition coming out soon while at the same time they are loosing their original base from Titanfall where the game seems to be incredibly more focused on the Titans and the story line.

    - How does the messmaker(matchmaker) work? There is not one. You want to game, you get in a game. You may be up against a Gen 10 to a noob. I think all modes have at least 6 v 6. Some are 8 v8.... Coliseum is 1 v 1, but the point is, you usually have at least 5 other guys/gals you need help from to get you that win. And you will sometimes be placed in a random group against a clan/ party of 2 to 5 other pilots. Last note, not all pilots use mics or have communications. So, that should sum that up....

    - Any mature, fresh, fun player groups to join to? No.. we ran out of those last week. We do have old, mean and smart or the unknown, nasty & serious groups remaining. (I hope you see the humor in that....o_O)... You will be able to find the type of players and groups you want.

So with all that said, Get the game. You won't regret it. It's fun, fast and a challenge because you need more than your skills.

Hope to see you on the frontier. I'll game with ya....

    Welcome aboard pilot!

I have to give you a big 5 stars for that, because that is actually the best description of it. :) Triggerman 6 described it very well, but I if you want to go deeper, I wrote a whole post about it here:
    http://www.titanfall-community.com/threads/the-case-for-how-matchmaking-is-worse-than-tf1.8054

Since I play on a PC, I would like to mention some things to expect. Many of the lobbies are dead and were already dead 2 months after release. One of the only lobbies you can always get a game in is Attrition. Perhaps Live Fire now, I don't know.

Also, since you do play on a PC, and you are considering getting a new game, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting TF1 for $10 instead of TF2 for $35. TF1 is a FAR SUPERIOR game and for far less money. It is still my favorite video game of all time. Also, believe it or not, but even though it is almost 3 years old, you can still get a game in Attrition any time of day, which is the same as TF2. Plus, TF1 has a Multiplayer Campaign that has 9 games (5 Attrition and 4 Hardpoint) and you can pretty much get a game of that any time of day as well as long as you are willing to switch servers. Also, for $10 you are getting a game with 24 large, well designed maps in TF1. Where, for TF2, you are only getting 10 maps (9 of which are small, choke-pointed maps) for $35. Does TF2 have a Single Player Campaign? Yes, and it is awesome, however, it will last you maybe 10 hours and that's it, but the majority of your time (100s or 1000s of hours) could be spent in the Multiplayer, which is far superior in TF1.

    Too late :D

As for the plans for my WE? All ruined. I started playing campaign Friday night and around 3pm i told to myself lets check out the multiplayer. I had to force myself to go bed at 7:00am. On saturday i managed to escape the 4 walls, nature, etc.. This day... im back in the vortex.

My only complaint is the handling. It is CLUNKY! I have solid 60fps but any mouse movement, weapon trigger starts like 0.5 s later. This is annoying. Im going to open another post and ask around about this.

    See you guys!

Well, I'm glad you are enjoying TF2. I would still recommend getting TF1 at some point, especially since it is only $10. I think you would enjoy that as well. Even though I am not a fan of what they have done with TF2, that is one thing I would never say is that it is clunky. I'm not really sure what you are experiencing there. It must be some settings on your computer or in the game. Hopefully someone can help you.
