I would be interested in the opinions from those that have tried Respawns new mode (HTK). Given that they have increased the time to kill and made a few other adjustments your responses will be interesting.

Will this change the me meta of the game? Who does it hep the most "elites" or average players? What is the significant change in game play that you noticed?

I'll be testing it out tonight in Titanfall Tuesday and I'll report back here. I just love this about Respawn though. No other developer even comes close in the amount of attention that they put into their community.

I saw something about the TTK. Like the robot in the old Lost In Space show of the 60's... "It does not compute". Can someone break it down for me because I have no idea what it's all about.

I was actually pretty excited about this, because besides the garbage titans, the thing that really kills my enjoyment during the pilot experience is the lack of situational awareness and feeling like you were getting 1-shot killed (and the annoying BOOM white shock flash thing no matter how you were killed or with what weapon). I was excited, because I thought maybe this sounded like a step in the right direction. I'm sorry, but there is no difference at all in my opinion. Feels exactly the same and just as horrible to me.

Just a note for Frothy though, even though he will probably never see it, I actually like his impromptu and unscripted video. His technical videos are good, but he is actually very funny to listen to.

Well on paper it's a good idea, part of what I noticed on TF2 was that the TTK felt a tad higher and the amped weapons were well...less than sporting...let's just leave that there. TF 1 for mine was pure in that you really only had one AR to choose from and the TTK on that felt right. I rarely felt like I'd been melted on TF 1. As to who that helps it's hard to say. An extra shot to kill across the board gives everyone more of a chance in the gunfight, being melted doesn't. The other things all needed attention...phase shift in particular needs to be set fire to and danced around while it burns. Ha!

    ________
Well I played the TTK mode most of yesterday and got very frustrated. I found that the extra Time To Kill (TTK) meant an average player like myself could not stay on target long enough and as a result the 'Elite' players just annihilated and found my performance on standard mode was better. It is amazing that in one game on the standard mode I was number 2 on the leader board the very next game on TTK I dropped to the bottom of the list with a 1 and 14 record. Yesterday was so bad I wouldn't even consider looking at my stats.

What I believe this change will do is ruin the game for the vast majority of average players while satisfying the already overly inflated egos of the Elite players. What will this do to the game - I for one would not likely continue to play if it is just blood bath after blood bath. The game the way it is now gives all players a fair chance to do well; the meta of the game will change drastically and in my opinion not for the better!

Having made these comments I want to thank Respawn for giving us the opportunity to provide feedback on their proposed changes, this is awesome! The game the way it is with the changes they have made to date is great, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Far too often developers feel the need to make modifications such as nerfing a weapon of adding a buff; these changes were not necessary and only done because players can't figure out how to respond to better players who have mastered a certain weapon. I am one who believes that for the most part they shouldn't keep "screwing" around with things. Yes after the game is first launched there will likely be some adjustments as things get sorted out in regular game play but this should not be an ever changing occurrence.

I may be over reacting and I am going to keep trying it out to see if perhaps I am doing something wrong or can find a way to improve. I hope that I am speaking (unofficially) for the poor unwashed who never follow going on and will wonder what is happening when their gaming experience goes down the "crapper". I was so frustrated yesterday that I am taking today off and just going to cool, do my volunteer work (always puts me in a good place) and see what the game offers tomorrow...

    Just my 2 cents worth...

some weapons like kraber, wingman, epg, still kills you with one shot, so not much of a difference, and phase shift still allows cowards to disappear from the fight if you return fire and fight back

After playing it for quite a bit, I must say, I didn't really notice a difference while playing the mode. However, I noticed it quite a bit when I went back to the normal modes.

Am I imagining that TF1 ttk was higher than TF2 or are they much the same?

Titanfall 1 may have been a bit higher but in my personal opinion, it feels pretty similar.

agreed. have just a few base weapons for each class, and just change the weapon model and sound . all weapons in each class will function the same all players will be playing with the same damage. but at least have a different look for weapons to add choices.

r101 c/ r101x r102 , hey make them all function in damage the same , just give each a bit of physical cosmetic look . different iron sights , grips butt stock even tweak the sound. the changing handle the mag well.

that goes for the car. use it as a base model and pase over a different model on there and we have a few more choices..

it will take a bit of readjusting .

with the ttk in these modes the way they are . any game that one plays for a wile will notice a difference. .

think of it as the normal modes are hardcore in other games . and the current test mode is normal . because one mussel memory is accustomed to the TTK from launch it will take a bit of adjusting.

when playing battlefield in hard core mode it was hard to go back to play the normal modes as bullet did less damage etc etc .

if it was the other way around and the test mode in the game now , if this was the way it was from the beginning and all players had a chance to play and get used to the game at the same time if you played the current mode as it is at launch you would find that you would be a much better player overall.

i am sure that if you keep playing the test mode long enough you will adjust and get better and then jump in what we call a normal game you would find you play like a god. .

I agree. TF1 felt perfect to me.

Yes, to me it is the exact opposite of the arc mine in TF1. You shouldn't be able to kill me if you are not there to do it. With the TF2 Phase Shift, you shouldn't be able to not be there when I'm about to kill you.

Yes, same as above comment. Also, I love your classic Sarah avatar Derrame.

I am so glad you asked this Sgt and I don't know the technical aspects, nor do I care. I will leave that to the experts who love that stuff like Frothy. However, regardless of what the numbers are, to me what is important is how it feels. Here is how the 2 games "feel" to me:

TF1: with the minimap, sound effects, taking damage and even hearing the damage, I always felt like I had PERFECT situational awareness at ALL TIMES. If I was being hit, I could tell exactly what direction it was coming from and in most cases, I could even tell what weapon I was being hit with. I also knew that, probably because of the TTK, that if I was always moving, I could absorb a little damage, get out of the way of it, lick my wounds and push forward. It always felt absolutely PERFECT to me.

TF2: the minimap is not helpful, the sound effects are not helpful and the TTK must be MUCH less, even in this new featured mode. I can never tell when I am being hit until I am already dead and hearing the BOOM and seeing the white flash thing. It is such a horrible experience in my opinion. I feel like I have no control and do not have the time to take advantage of the beautiful movement to evade anything, which is what I enjoyed so much about TF1. To me it was like the art of evasion. I took pride in having 0 deaths at the end of an Attrition game and not by hiding, but by even (as a pilot) jumping in the middle of 3 enemy titans and taking 1, 2 or all 3 of them out. To me, TF2 is such a downgrade in this regard that it is a horrible experience to me and removes so much opportunity for self expression. I mean, you might just be feeling like you're getting started and BOOM white shock flash and your dead. It just kills the fun before you even can get started.

I just wanted to keep this one separate, because this is a little more broad of a topic and I am not singling you out here DARK, because I know a lot would agree with your sentiments in the scope you presented them, which is sort of in regard to mid-release tweaks to things.

The point I would like to make is if this holds true to tweaking things mid-release and that if it ain't broke don't fix it and they shouldn't keep screwing around with things, because the poor unwashed will wonder what is happening when their gaming experience goes down the crapper, isn't there a grander scale to that?

What about those who thought the titans in TF1 were perfect? What about those who thought the situational awareness in TF1 was perfect? Shouldn't the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and "they shouldn't keep screwing around with things" apply on a more monumental and epic scale and then is it any wonder then that those "unwashed will wonder what is happening when their gaming experience goes down the crapper"?

Does anyone see my point? For those who loved TF1, the unnecessary changes to every core functionality made for TF2 was the equivalent of sinking the Titanic. In comparison, squabbling over the normal TF2 modes and this High TTK featured mode is like rearranging the deck chairs.

I also think the movement system was not as fast so that tended to balance the TTK factor.

You raise a good point EN, however as I have said before TF and TF2 are totally different by design. Obviously some think one is better than the other but who is to say what is right. I think the TTK was balanced fine when you take into consideration the much faster mobility of pilots so to change it will drastically change how the game will be played.

I agree with a lot of the criticisms of TF2 and have voiced those issues time and again. The thing is I have been enjoying the game a great deal in its current rendition but if they implement this experimental change, well I am not so sure anymore.

As with all things time will tell.

Just don't go with the "those who loved TF1 argument" here because I've shown how much I loved Titanfall 1 and I don't think Titanfall 2 mechanics are like "sinking the titanic".
