Friendly Interference - Should It Exist At All?

    I'm starting this thread, because of a comment my boy Trini made in another thread, because I felt this deserves a discussion on it's own. Here is what Trini had said:

    I believe Trini is exactly right. This was actually a huge problem I had with TF1 that seemed to get worse with changes they made later in the game than when the game first came out. The place this was the most noticeable in TF1 was at the beginning of the game when you got off the drop ship. You were always banging off of each other. Sometimes it was so bad, if players around you were slow or possibly even AFK when you got off the drop ship, you couldn't even move until they finally decided to move. You were just stuck there.

    This is one thing I was really hoping they would have remedied in TF2, but IMO it has gotten much worse just as Trini described.

    Personally, I don't think any friendly interference should exist. You are never going to have any reason to melee your teammates or friendly grunts or friendly titans. I think you should be able to move through them as if they were ghosts or not even there. It is a game and is just fictional, so I think we should make it as enjoyable as possible and remove as much unnecessary annoyances as possible. What do you think?

    Reapers man, f'n reapers.


    To be honest I'm tired of ripping every little thing about the game but most of these gripes are legit and very annoying.

    The game lag and game "flow" can be rough.

    I guess what I'm personally trying to do with my whining is get the devs attention enough to see that future updates and dlcs address my concerns.

    And furthering, I like to think others that have griped feel the same way as I.

    I really like the game. In fact I haven't put it down but I think TF2 can really use some some tweaking and ultimately may NEED the tweaking to survive.

    I certainly don't feel like you have been griping. And as you say, a lot of the concerns you and others have brought up are legit.


    I'm with you brother. I feel the same way.

    hey guys what's up.

    it can be rough a lot of times , when fighting and can really be frustrating when trying to move , now i don't mean just forward , one would say just go around and i do this from time to time knowing full well i will have a cluster problem .
    the part that gets me frustrated is when frendly block my shots and it would have been a kill shot to boot i do understand that this can happen from time to time but it's still frustrating when i pump my core at the enemy only for it to be blocked by a teammate by no fault of his own as he is doing what he should to get away from fire but that shot is now useless as it hit my teammate and not the enemy that and the pathways on a lot if not most or even all are just too narrow for titans , i would have liked it to be titan friendly within reason.

    I do still enjoy the game very much but the collision animation is very bad , i know other games have this problem but there should be a way to when moving forward a slight budge so to facilitate to move pass , something like the ghost but not so much that you pass right tru them as it may take away the realism a bit , but something along the lines .


    if i am close enough on the ground near an enemy titan or friendly IMO i should be able to jump on the titan but the colision is a bit crazy and sometimes you can't even move and then you get killed .


    I do hope in future DLC that they address this collision problem , i could live with the weapon collision when shooting for now but the new maps IMO need to carter for at least 2 titans . i don't know if a boost jume will work in titanfall and i don't mean a major jump but a slight boost hop similar to the dash , a titan can dash all directions but up , who knows what or how that will make the game feel but games like Hawken has a slight boost jump , one would think with the tech that titans have being able to drop from the sky and land safe on the ground a slight jume would be warranted.

    What can Respawn really do to make a difference in the collision ?

    your good bro , just stick to the topic of a tread , or make a note a reply to just a member comment , but keep your views flowing , not just the negative but the positive example what can they do different to fix with in reason. what you would like to see that any other game have that works and put your view across towards part 3 of future games.

    it is not easy sometimes but like me i put down what i like with the current game and put down what i think would be better and keep in mind the best that i can the overall game play of the current game.

    you can even talk about the small details that you may have notice in game that you like , you can talk about anything , am down to hear what you have to say.

    and how would it be without collision? you go through the other characters like ghosts?

    Personally Trini, in my opinion, I don't care as much about the realism as I do about having the annoyance removed. I mean c'mon, Phase Dash? Realism? And we are worried about realism of moving through friendlies to avoid the collision annoyance?

    Yeah, that would be my preference Derrame.

    i understand what you are saying but to ghost tru other players i think will change the dynamics , the phase dash i could see it as an option to go tru something , i don't mean too realistic but more practical or with in reason like a shoulder brush and a player should be able to pass by friendly . i understand the game is fiction , but that's based on story as a future concept in technology. what i am suggesting is more down the lines of practical movement depending on the speed of movement of the player you wold be able to pas or even slightly move true them . this is not some thing i take likely as i know you don't also . this will have to be combined with the map surroundings even a feature like a vault system that they have in other games by hitting a button you should vault and when i say this i mean like a shoulder brush animation or something along those lines. it also don't have to be a command but auto as depending on the speed of the player moving forward back and side to side.

    i reall don't know if they can fix this but i want them to try as it can really get annoying at times .

    so it's pretty a bit of both IMO the annoyance but within reason , the only way to know how the outcome would really be it for dev's to test the ghosting relative to the speed of the player . because remember the main thing is not to be stock during a collision all these little factors have to factored in , and you know this as you are a programer , it's the little thing that can make a big difference.
    your idea could work and it may not as remember there is a saying FOR EVERY ACTION THERE IS A REACTION .

    cheers on the ghost idea if a dev read this they could try this out in there tech lab as a concept.

    the collision concept can be implemented with in reason for a game like titanfall to have practical movement this is just a thought.

    Well, Trini, I believe we both agree that something should be done. You're right, I am a computer programmer, and this is exactly why I would go with the ghost route. All you would have to do is check is this pilot/grunt/titan object a teammate? If yes, then disable collision. Essentially treat them as if they are a door object, which you could walk right through. Complete problem solved quick and easy. Rather than going through all this unnecessary collision calculation stuff.

    I don't want to minimize everything you are sharing though. I think you are one of the most valuable contributors in this community, because you are very reasonable and you really take the time to do a lot of research and share valuable images and information. Thank you for that!

    With all the supplement solicitation taking up the top slots as well as the focus shifting to looking forward to TF3 now, just wanted to revive some potentially applicable threads that might warrant more discussion at this time.

    I still believe there should be no friendly interference.

    I enjoy it in TF1
    Yeah, it sucks when a blueberry gets in your way but its part of the game.
    Git gid enough to deal with it.

    Today I was on the same team as a player I dont like, blocked the poor bastard in an alley way with enemies shooting at him :p
    Dude had nowhere to run!

    Thanks for the feedback Battle.

    For me, its not about getting good enough to deal with it. Its just annoyance that shouldn't be there, especially the case of getting off the drop ship where you are trapped behind players that are AFK and you can't even move.

    The Ai and other players also serve as a shield which I hate to use . I hate even more being killled by some dick hiding in behind a bunch of AI.

    Or they should have used the PODS to insert into the game more. Or simply as you ran off the ramp, once you landed you had a clear view and path to the objective? I admit I had a few bumps in game..............or use zip lines????? THIS is why TF1 was awesome! It had a fresh, new forward thinking sense. Nothing was out of bounds or silly. If it was fun, then do it! Besides, instead of "bunny hopping"............right?...remember?......they gave all of US, jet packs so everyone could literally bunny hop around!
