I'm pretty sure metal came after and unrelated to prog, which evolved out of the psychedelic music of the 60s. And post-rock added any metal elements it can embody these days later on after it originated. You're completely right about liking music for the right reasons, but not every modern genre evolved out of metal hah
Wrong mate, prog evolved after metal, the primary prog bands being influenced by led zep and cream, incorporating elements of psychedelia,do you know what band were the first to be described as heavy metal?although the first true metal bands were really sabbath, blue cheer etc
Led Zeppelin was the first band described as metal. But progressive rock took much more from psychedelic music than it did from the blues that Led Zeppelin drew from. Pink Floyd's first album is a textbook psychedelic album, and well into their later work you can tell that they drew much more on that than the influences Led Zeppelin took in.
No,the first band described as heavy metal was the kinks, you really got me by an english radio dj when it was released, it then became a phrase used to describe any band using gain/distortion/overdrive,developing into heavy blues and on to current trends. The first prog album is considered to be The pretty things SF sorrow, which was also,at the time, referred to as psychedelic heavy metal.now these terms may take on a different value/meaning to different people but dont argue their origins with a music historian..its a family thing/music journalists/musicians
Metal and prog are different things that developed at roughly the same time. Progressive rock really isn't a subgenre of metal, man. Anyone with ears could tell you that.
W why?dont need to post any,its all pretty easy to obtain,i like what i like,no need to shove it in yer face, lol
