I'm sorry but I was not meaning to be sarcastic, merely point out the obvious. but really..... It's a sniper rifle... what else are you supposed to do with it. During gameplay you lack the capability of running up to a pilot (or an annoying child or adult) and hitting them over the head with it. (EDIT)... That last part was "Sarcasm.
LOL - no my post was sarcasm - but not to successfully apparently. But I make a good point. I do think sniper rifles should be removed before smart pistols - after all smart pistols do what they are supposed to do. And is anyone thinks they are too easy they can use one themselves rather than whining about it. After all what skill is there in hiding and potting people from a vast distance with a sniper rifle. They are only for the skill less players. Still a little sarcasm in this.
I am not really going to complain. There is always those certain guns in games that have certain advantages. I do, however, have a problem with lack of balancing in games. If you are to look at an RPG style game, the counter to an overpowered fireball or healing spell would be a stun or interrupt of some sort. The counter to melee is range, and the counter to range is stealth, etc. I do believe that there should be counters to the Smart Pistol. Such as: if you are cloaked, it will not acquire its targets. If you cloak during targeting, it will keep targets made, but acquire no further targets. I also believe that jumping should either greatly increase the time it takes for it to acquire its targets or cancel the targeting system completely. It's sadly absurd to have to try to manually track a "HALO jumpbutton-masher" while they can just track you down and squash you. These are my two cents. I just feel as these might be fair solutions....good players will still find the weapon great, but it would create less headache and stress for other players.
I flippin hate the dang smart pistol, it's the only weapon in the game I have a problem with. Reason being, I have to actually aim to kill the bastard who's using it, while all he has to do is get in range and wait for the lock on. While he's waiting, he's hopping all around my screen so I can't get a good bead on him. I like playing this game, love the freedom of movement you have as well as the titan combat, but the smart pistol is just a cheap weapon that should have never been added to the game in the first place, plain and simple. I know it won't be taken out so I hope Respawn won't add something like it in again if they release a Titanfall 2.
It was made for people who don't spend much time each day playing CoD or other shooters/videogames. It helps the newer/older people still have a chance compared to the youngsters. It is weak against someone with situational awareness and aim, thus not giving it a major advantage over the people who are better than the smart pistol user at this game, but it still gives them a chance to be helpful and have some fun. Take that suppressor off your carbine and get better aim!
I agree whole heartedly with @The Juggernaut here. I can empathise with certain (camping) situations however campers are not unique to Titanfall. I appreciate too, that PC players are at more of a disadvantage due to the inherent auto aim that the console gets, but as a console gamer, I'm ok with this weapon as it is, in the game. When I use it myself (Gen 9 challenge) my pilot kill average dropped in each round, although my minion harvest went up.
The scary thing from my perspective when I did that challenge (and I have been loathe to mention it because of the discussion around this weapon) I actually improved my kills both pilots and minions by about 15%. I actually wrecked a few times with it, once I realised the movement needed for the weapon and the enhanced targeting it was a hoot. However I did return to my trusty carbine once it was over.
Not having a suppressor in a public match is just asking to be killed...having good aim and a suppressor is just better...ha!
I love running a unsuppressed class in Pilot Skirmish. No titans to worry about and it acts as a magnet for enemy pilots to swarm to. Results in lots of quick kills and you don't go very long periods of time without running into a pilot since they know your location and just bring themselves to you! I can tell how suppressors can be suicidal especially when the enemy team has titans. But for more objective type gamemodes, the damage vs a suppressor is really helpful. One thing that annoys me is getting killed by a R-97 SMG while it's suppressed. It's basically a pebble shooter when I use it!
I think the smart pistol is cheap but I don't think its overpowered. When I first started playing I did. Until I noticed I wasnt on top and most of everyone who was playing were using rifles. I had the most minion kills but that shit doesn't mean nothing. Titan and pilot kills matter the most.
if you're cloaked it takes longer for them to lock on ya which in most cases result in their deaths only had a few issues with it nothing to complain about, i don't like it but i don't mind if other people use it, i just don't want to lower myself to use a gun that doesn't require much handling to get hits.
With proper timing, if you activate stim while being shot by the 3 shot 'burst' you can survive and it will take 4 locks to kill you. I don't know how practical this is on the xbox version, but PC has a lot of people doing this. I'll have to see if this is a good counter on Xbox
The best counter to the smart pistol is a wall, if you aren't running mid map you are more likely to survive...ha!
Actually I don't like running suppressor on any of my classes, makes it boring. As for the whole helping people who don't play much shooters and such, fine argument, I'm all for making the game a bit more accessible, but giving them a weapon that does the work for them is not the answer. It doesn't teach them how to aim or to compensate for enemy movement and weapon recoil. Heck it doesn't even teach them how to flank a position. It teaches them to get in range, start bouncing around all over the place, wait for the lock on, and pull the trigger. They get the reward without having to put in the effort. Also, this isn't to bash or anything, what system or systems do you play titanfall on? I play on PC myself.
That's a giving in any game! Sprinting into a wide open area against hitscan bullets in the middle of the map that has extremely large amounts of flanking routes? You deserve to die from any weapon!
