So, I'm in a game that I have one battle mark completed. I also have over 3/4 of the green circle completed for the NEXT battle mark. Then I pop an enemy pilot with my shotgun, look down at the ranked play indicator thinking hee-hee, I should have completed a second B.M.......and.....WHAT?? It actually went DOWN, took away my existing battle mark. HUH??? AND then I complete the game, killing one more enemy titan, have NO deaths ( 6 pilot kills, 4 titan kills, 0 deaths), and I'm on WINNING team, and it still didnt give me back the battle mark I earned BEFORE the last pilot kill. Got NOTHING ! Uhhh....... REALLY????????????????? ( this is only in level 5 silver, shouldn't be THAT difficult )
I've never been able to understand the scoring in ranked play. Always felt I was getting ripped off so I give Ranked Play no attention.
Yea, I certainly felt ripped on this one. In the skill comparison chart showing my skills against enemy players, they had all but one above me, even though most of them had LESS points and MORE deaths. They even had one enemy pilot who obviously came in late, above me. He had 1 pilot kill/ 0 deaths and nothing else for a total of 4 attr. points. Jeeze, my total of 52 (not stellar, I know. Didnt get many minions) 6 pilots, 4 titans, 0 deaths wasnt better than HIS performance?? I call BULL-&$*#. It did however have me right on the MY team chart, second to the MVP who had about 35 more points, even though 4 deaths. And it also correctly put me above a team player who had only 5 more points but 6 deaths, Thats understandable and what SHOULD show. But still something was WAY wrong with the ranking matrix last night, havent played ranked for a few days so I went down from gold 1 to silver cause you lose a battle mark every couple days I think. Dont remember being in silver and doing that well only to get nothing. Especially the part where my current in game progress when DOWN after a pilot kill. Oh, and you also hear "rating increased, good job" more when getting a minion than a pilot or titan, thats just plain STUPID.
Rank play is tricky. It also takes into consideration how other players have been playing. So you could kick butt, but if other players are doing twice as good, you can go down. My advice is that you should not worry about it. Just leave it on and forget about or take it off. No one really cares about it anymore. I found that when I was approaching Gold V that I would loose so many marks when my box disconnected or froze that I could never make it any farther. Of course it had nothing to do with my being a lousy player. I am a diamond v in the fun department. Basically to progress you have to never die especially with all the SP players rampant these days. It is a tall order and just takes away the reckless abandon fun playing and sense of freedom to try new things. Unless you have lots of time to devote to the effort of advancing it ain't worth it. I am happy to be between silver and gold for a while yet. In fact, I leave it on just to have a laugh when I go back to silver 3. That seems to be my bottom of the barrel. Good luck.
Yea I hear ya, most people dont care about "Personal Stats" from what I've been reading/seeing. But I happen to like to judge myself, partly cause you cant rely on what your team mates do so I dont care too much about "Victory", just myself. (I'm a lone player, not part of some "clan"). I only just discovered this Ranked play not too long ago so I figured I'd give it a try. Apparently its not much better at figuring things out than the "Personal Stats" menu. I found THAT so confusing/WRONG that I made my own spreadsheet using Open Office to write down my Att. points, P. kills, T. kills, M. kills and deaths....along with win or lose. Yea, I'm a bit anal, LOL Funny how my actual recorded stats dont match what the game shows. ( I admit, theres some things I dont/cant figure, like Titan losses, game recap doesnt show that, and its too hard to remember with all the PANIC of the firefights going on. But I'm sure others have titan losses too, so I dont sweat that. ) As long as I have more Pilot/Titan kills than deaths I'm relatively happy with the outcome.
It is cool that you do all that analysis. hang in and keep us posted about any insights. Despite all the down play about stats it is a good way to track at least some of your progress. Also, I am sure that if I were a high ranked plYer I would be more pro stats. Good luck
I had an odd one the other day, I was in a full lobby and sort of hung back and really was just a wallflower. My figures were 3 2 15 (approx) and 0 deaths. I got all 4 battlemarks. Go figure.
Weird. I have had similar things happen both ways. It is so frustrating when you kick but and still lose a mark or just fall short. Yesterday I got zero pilot kills kills and had two deaths, but still got a battle mark. Go figure? I did a lot of cool things though. They were probably accidents more than skill. I think the analytical program for rank play actually recognizes some degree of non linear non discrete actions. In other words kills and deaths are numerical, but when you wall hang in a unusual spot and evade a pilot and allow him to walk into an ambush by someone else and get killed the Rank Chip Monitor guy gets all excited and tells me to keep it up I am doing an excellent job. I say "Say what??? All I was doing was running for my life and hiding! ". But the action is recognized. This has happened so often I am convinced that there is a way the program can recognize this. Any thoughts? Am I full of sh*t?
The Ranking system is definitely flawed. That has been established for a while. But there are a few things that remain constant. The Ranking is based on the individual lobby. You will be ranked based on all players in game, regardless of their rank chip being active or not. I've been playing CTF a lot almost exclusively. Where same as you have said. I have a chip. or almost a chip. Then i kill a player. and it goes down. However, something could have happened elsewhere on the map that you didn't see. Someone could have killed your flag carrier, which in turn gave the Killing player a boost in his ranking while dropping yours. Since its more important to kill a flag carrier than a normal player, it took your ranking down. Winning a match also raises your chip. so if you lost the match or became a little less active towards the end of the match it will bring it down. There is times on Pilot Hunter where you could do fantastic as a Winning pilot and still not get one because of the top pilot on the other team being the only one that killed you. Ex) Winning Top Score 23-4, Losing Top Score 15-6. Although we would all agree that the 23-4 was a better game, perhaps a better player. The Fact that the 15-6 kid had killed him 3-4 times. it may not give the loosing player a mark. But it will also not give one to the winning highscore... I've been on both sides of the coin... More recently last night on PH... First time playing in a while and I Had Forgotten about the Campgrounds that are held by Scrubtype players with Silencers and Camo baby sitting for titans... OH and the Titandrops. Lulz. I was such a fan of Pilot Hunter.... I must say that I almost hate it now. It's all about being a better camper than an actual "hunter".
A-Train as far as I'm concerned you could be dead-on. I've had that where you kick butt and Get ripped off, or you don't do much more than just get a few kill here and there and relax and at the end get rewarded nicely. Now, as far as you being full of sh*t, well just knock out this achievement and you'll be good as new old buddy.

One thing I think i DO notice (also) is that it matters a bit, or maybe TOO much, whether or not your team wins. I DONT like that part, cause I cant control other team mates performance. Infuriates me to do good, maybe get for example 5 pilots, 4 titans, whatever minions, and only 1 or 0 deaths and my team losses by 10 points or so. Then I notice one or two team members with 10 or more deaths, I shouldn't get penalized for it in ranked play, I'm not the one giving it away. Sometimes you'll have somebody SO TERRIBLE that I'd swear they were a "Mole" for the enemy team, lol. Even worse, the summary shows them above me, with a couple total attrition points more but they gave away 40 more deaths points to enemy team. Yea, right....they did better than me. DONT THINK SOOOOOO. I try to type in DEFENSE PEOPLE TRY it SOMETIME, quit shoveling them points. but usually no time to get it in there. Also, I think playing other modes of the game can make it easier to get a battlemark ( at least at first ), cause I recently played a Campaign game which turned out to be HardPoint and I got in about half way through, did alright but not great. Game was over after me being in it for maybe only 3 or 4 minutes but somehow I got a full battlemark. So I tried to do another Hardpoint directly and there were NO players in that mode so I couldnt test it out more, DOH!. And forget trying the other modes, no players there either. ( Frontier Defense maybe, but I usually play that only when I want to level up, its a quick leveling mode, can level several numbers in ONE game when starting a new Gen. )
I bought this game 2 days ago expecting it to be as awesome as it was when I played it in the beta like a year ago. I reached ranked play the night that I got it and got to Gold I yesterday. Today I played a few games and found that EVERY SINGLE MATCH I would go up to 1.5 battlemarks, then for NO REASON drop down to 0.75 battlemarks and the game would end like that, even if we won. I have had games where I went 15 pilot kills, 4 titan kills, 20+ minion kills, 5 deaths and had all 5 battlemarks filled up but after 1 more death, it would drop to 2. Literally lost 3 battlemarks because of 1 death. This game's ranking system is so BS, I could hire an ape to make a more balanced one. The only thing I expected to keep me enjoying Titanfall was boosting my ranking but now that I see it's more broken than Kim Kardashian is talentless, I have no reason to play this game. Hopefully the people behind Titanfall 2 don't hire the same idiot who is clearly denser than elemental platinum.
I will always be miffed at people who join the forum to write a post about how they dislike the game and wont play it.
Yeah Sarge I agree. I'm certain he's attempting to make a point... but to who? Also wonder if he's gone on a Titanfall bashing rampage to all the other Titanfall forums.
It's flawed yes but we still hit diamond V ... I did miss a few but for good reasons. Never been lower than a D IV at seasons end. Just because it's "flawed" doesn't mean it doesn't work. At the end of the day anything bellow Diamond V, 5 Marks, You are your ranking as far as im concerned. If you're a platinum 2 at most, and consistently play this game and remain at playinum 2 you're a platinum 2. If a player is a D5 and drops to D1 because he has been doing something else then gets back to D5 clearly that player is better than the ranking system could rank. Meaning I would take the D5player over the P 2 player. Ranking does mess up. But more often than not it does it's job.

Informative. Cleared up some things. Never get past Gold myself and I hardly ever go into play but it's good to know and I'm sure others here will get something out of it.
I always end up high gold low platinum. But when I cared I usually got higher, these days I have pilot class which is basically a titan rushing class, it gets ugly, I went 2 and 15 the other day...ha!
