I am still struggling to understand how the game decides when a doomed titan is ready to die. What typically happens to me is I go in for a melee kill on an enemy's doomed titan (while I still have one or two health bars) and I start punching - only for that titan (usually a Ronin) to cut me to ribbons and execute me. I honestly don't understand it. How can my melee attack when I have health and they are doomed fail, yet their doomed melee attack wins? I'm also a little annoyed that I can fight a titan that is at full health, knock it down to the merest of doomed health, and another pilot/titan comes along and uses 1 shot and gets the titan kill, while I get nothing except a badly damaged titan. I just don't get it.
That sucks when you get just a titan assist when youve done the hard work..... Is the doomed state issue with northstar?
Timing, your titan and it's abilities, the enemy titan and it's abilities, is their core ready, is mine? You will without a doubt have some kills "stolen" from you out there in the frontier. It'll even itself out with the kills you will just so happen to aquire after someone else put in most of the work. Just some give and take.
Part of it is losing the points, but the other part is I just don't understand how when I'm in Scorch with blue health and I melee attack a Ronin with about half of a black and yellow health bar, it can execute me. It just doesn't make sense. And yeah, I do hate those kill poachers! I think in TF1 it was more obvious, if the enemy titan was doomed any melee smoked it. Not so in TF2. All of this is hopefully going to be blissfully irrelevant soon, as today I received my copy of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Maybe in 6 months or so Respawn will have figured out how to make this game better.
The Ronin is the most OVER POWERED thing in Titanfall 2 (Period) How fast it is..... The reach of the sword....is absolutely ridiculous.....I've been inside buildings and have been killed by it on many occasions..... I say to myself...no way he can get me.. Other than that.....it's all about timing to answer your original question.
I've read varying stats for melees and it seems stryder class titans have increased melee damage over ogre class, and if the ronin is in sword core (glowing orangey I think) it wont execute, just slash you to bits. Its reach is good. (Side tip:If you get a battery in doomed state, they cant execute you) Anyway, please dont even melee with scorch, best attack/defence hands down close quarters is flame shield. Ronins will wince with embaressment as they try and dash away. So pick attack methods wisely. But yeah, as said timings are crucial too.
The best commentary on this was WarSpiritUK's comments from the 8:00 through 9:30 section of this video: It is so true. My stomach was actually hurting from laughing the first time I watched this.
He's not wrong. But I can list 5 things I do like about TF2: 1.) Northstar can fly. 2.) Dry Dock map 3.) sliding and bunny hopping 4.) Phase Shift 5.) customizing the skins of guns, pilots, and titans.
Oh, there are plenty of things I like as well. I even made a post about it. http://www.titanfall-community.com/threads/titanfall-2-the-good-things.7990/ I was only sharing that link for the portion between the 8:00 and 9:30 mark about the doomed titans, because it was relevant to this thread and I thought it was right on the money and hilarious.
As always, I am with you Kernel. That should have been the starting point. With regard to this thread in particular, the doomed titan was handled much better as well.
