Here's a good one for you all. I have played many fps games, and my favorite is TF1, no surprise there, right? But, when I try another game, like CODWW2, or BF1, or even the latest Battalion 1944..........they just are NOT the same , weird....? They seem to play too fast, no one plays the objective, and its all about K/D Ratios.

But when I remember playing TF!, it WAS fast paced, quick and yet it seemed balanced with solid play. I miss the Campaign, and playing Hardpoint. Attrition was OK, but I really enjoyed Hardpoint.

I am re-installing TF1, but want to know, is anyone still out there playing on PC? (I swear I'll pay you money to play..............LOL)

I am very disappointed in these latest fps games. OH, the graphics are great, maps awesome, and weapons good, but something is missing......not sure but something.

Any ideas from any of you? What is missing from these newer games that TF1 had?

Hi King, I still play TF1 on PC so maybe we will run into each other.

I think I know exactly what it is for me King, that the other games are missing including TF2. It is all about the movement. I was just chatting with Derrame about this last night and it made me really put my finger right on what it was.

I never liked traditional FPS games and I still don't, which is why I hate TF2, because they took a beautiful unique thing and tried to turn it into a traditional FPS game.

The reason I loved TF1 and it was and still is my favorite video game of all time is because of the movement. Because I never liked traditional FPS games, of course I am not a good shot and frankly I don't care to be. I play a game to have fun and trying to get better at shooting is too much like work for me. The beautiful thing about TF1 is that I had fun just moving around the maps and killing was almost secondary. There were and still are times where I just enjoy the hell out of flying around the maps, chaining wall runs together and trying to see what kind of tricks I can pull off. There are a lot of other things I hate about TF2, but the fact that they took the focus off of the movement and tried to put the focus back on the shooting is what I don't like.

That also perfectly lines up with what I was infuriated about in the tech test, because you could tell they listened to all of their COD buddies who hated TF1 in the decision making for TF2. This is why you have all of these things:
    -small maps with choke points
    -slower pilot ground speed
-slower pilot speed in coming off of a wall
-messed up pilot health/gun damage balance making it feel like you are always 1-shot killed
-the stupid quicker Boosts/Titans/Cores progression that reward kill streaks that traditional FPS players covet

All of this results in trying to push the game towards shooting and away from movement. Its why you can't have fun moving, because everything about it is set up so that before you can even get started enjoying movement, someone 1-shots you on these tiny maps.

Killing the movement, which is what made TF1 unique, is what will ultimately kill the franchise if they don't wake up and smell the roses. There are plenty of traditional FPS games out there, you will die if you try to play in their world. Stick to what sets you apart.

Well said my friend. I re-installed TF1 and all I found was a game of Attrition. Had some fun, but I miss Hardpoint. And your point about making it more like a COD styled game is spot on. TF1 was not about shooting, or always playing game as though they were Team Death Matches. That was the appeal of TF!.

    Hope to see you soon!!!!!!!!

Thanks King! I appreciate it. Yes, TF1 is down to only Attrition most of the time now. Occasionally, at around 3AM EST, you can get a Campaign game, because some on North Europe server like to play it. Also, sometimes on the weekend you can get a Campaign game. Campaign is nice, because 4 out of 9 are Hardpoint.

I'm always having some sneaky matches on TF1, love going back to my arc cannon and shooting out Titans, miss being able to do that!!

Xbox one though, so I'll be a miss with you guys. Bluddy awesome game though, always stoked here in NZ evenings there is still a good following, a few Attrition matches and the odd campaign match rotating.

I've just spent the last few days back on TF1 after a year(ish) on TF2. Now I hate both games because now the worst of both stick out like a sore thumb. Or something.

I love the maps and pilot/titan customizations in TF1, but the players seem to be expert spawn campers who run entirely with the smart pistol. I hate that gun like I hate the Ronin in TF2--both are so out of balance it ruins the game for me.

One shot kills in TF2? That seems to be the rule of the day for me in TF1. There's no chance to slide or grapple out of the way when you're getting hit. It's red then dead for me in TF1.

I move far, far better in TF2 than 1. I understand what folks say about TF1 seeming faster, but in TF2 I'm able to string together wall runs, long jumps, slides, and more wall runs. Plus throw in the grapple and I'm much faster in TF2 than 1.

In TF2 I'm MVP 30%ish of the time, top three 40%ish. My last three days in TF1 have been nothing but bottom three with an occasional MVP or top three.

I had to stop playing because I was back in Rage Mode just like when I started playing TF1. The only reason I kept with play on TF1 was to get Gen10/L50 to spite the game.

I'm amazed folks love TF1. I don't get it, don't see it. Happy for y'all, I'm just done with it. It's bad for my blood pressure.

Yeah, it is a very nuanced thing. It is hard to describe. It is very subtle, but it makes all the difference in the world.

In order to understand, you would have to compare apples to apples, so you would have to remove the slide and grapple from TF2. I would also suggest removing Stim from the equation as well, because Stim is way too jacked up in TF2 to the point where it is cartoony. So, I am talking about just normal ground speed, normal wallrun speed and normal coming off of a wall speed, because this is where I will spend probably 60 to 75% of the game, at normal speeds with no assistance.

I would challenge you to try playing TF1 without Stim. And, then try playing TF2 without Stim, Grapple or Slide. Then tell me what you think, because I believe you would then notice the difference and realize what I am talking about.

    Here are some actual numbers
    • T1 ground = up to 20 kph
    • T1 wallrun = up to 40 kph (notice how you can accelerate from 20 to 40 just while on a wall)
    • T1 airborn = up to 40 kph
    • T2 ground = 20 kph
    • T2 wallrun = 30 kph (you cannot get above 30 just while on a wall)
    • T2 airborn = 40 kph
*** Here's the rub though and what really kills the movement in TF2. In TF1, you carried momentum while going from air to wall or air to ground. In TF2, the ground and wall speeds are like speed limits and act almost like brakes if you were going faster when you hit them. In other words, in TF1 if you were in the air going 40kph and hit a another wall, you would maintain 40kph. However, in TF2, if you were in the air going 40kph and you hit another wall, you would immediately get throttled back to 30kph until you left that wall. Likewise, in TF1, if you were in the air going 40kph and touched the ground, you would maintain that momentum and it would gradually decrease back down to 20kph, but in between you would have time to catch another wall and keep your speed higher. In TF2, if you were in the air going 40kph and touched the ground, you would immediately get throttled back to 20kph, which can make you a sitting duck. So you come flying off of a wall and land in some open space and you lose all momentum to try to get you to the next place to catch another wall and you are stuck at 20kph.

So, in summary, the biggest things that kill the movement in TF2 is that the maximum wallrun speed was reduced from 40kph to 30kph and that you can't carry momentum when moving to an area with a lower speed limit.

Please, give it a try without the aid of Stim, Grapple or Slide and you will see what I mean.

I don't run with Stim, and agree with you on the cartoonish aspect of it.

I get your point, but mine was meant in the gist of overall gameplay. I *can* use slide, and it's a natural part of movement in the game.

It's been a frustrating few days that really brought out what I really dislike in both games. Now I'm back to COD Ghost Squads where I can have fun playing and not tear my hair out or break stuff. :p

Oh believe me, I can understand why you could find TF1 feeling less moblile than TF2 if you are used to TF2. If, like you said, you are used to using Grapple and Slide and then those are not there. I'm just trying to express that this is how it is for me going from TF1 to TF2, because I don't want to use Grapple and Slide. I just want my increased wallrun speed and maintaining momentum when coming off of walls. If you take those away from me, it is the same as taking Grapple and Slide away from you.

You can maintain momentum in TF2 by simply sliding while hitting the ground and bunny hopping. You can actually get going faster than you could in TF1 and it's actually much easier to perform.

I appreciate that you in fact can do that, but I don't want to have to. Just the same as someone who started with TF2 would not want to not have their Slide or Grapple if they went back to TF1, I don't want to not have my wall speed and maintaining momentum (without having to use any tricks) in TF2. This was all part of them trying to intentionally slow the game down, which was total BS. They actually wanted even worse and only backed off a little bit because of all of the outcry during the tech test. But they actually thought this crap was a good idea and they are dead wrong.

Here it is right out of the horse's mouth (oh sorry, actually out of the other end of the horse):

"We actually also slowed the game down a fair bit. When I go back and play Titanfall 1, I'm always floored by just how amped up it is...how fast the players are. I understand that it might disappoint some players who are coming back to the game from Titanfall 1, but I think overall the change is healthy for the game. It was a good design decision." - Steve Fukuda, TF2 Game Director

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! And YOU'RE FIRED!!!

TF1 - 11 million copies sold; TF2 - 5 million copies sold = HORRENDOUS DESIGN DECISION (and not healthy for the game)

By the way FrazzledDad, right there confirms that TF2 was intentionally slowed down.

(quote taken out of 6/14/16 Game Informer video at the 5:38 point, notice this was prior to the tech test before the outcry as well, so that 5 million may have only been 3 million if they had been stubborn and kept things the way they really wanted them)

I try to play Titanfall 1 a little bit every month or so. The mechanics and playstyle of this game are just so unique and definitely something I try to revisit. Sadly, I've been busy and away from my xbox. But I'm thinking of getting this game on PC maybe! The hefty price tag of $20 when TF2 was $5 is still a bit of a shock, however. And according to the playerbase view counter for PC on the Titanfall subreddit, 62 current people on a Friday night at 5pm EST... not much. Wondering if it would be worth it haha!

Hi Juggernaut, I would not recommend it at this time, and that is coming from someone who holds TF1 as his favorite video game of all time. If you could get it for $5 or maybe $10, then I would consider it.

The only reason I say this is because, as you mentioned, the player base is extremely small on the PC, but that is not the only problem. What compounds that problem is that a very high percentage of that small player base are either cheaters or just plain jerks. And since the player base is so small, you cannot avoid them. You run into the same ones every day.

To make matters worse, within the last 2 weeks, there has been the addition of a whole other level of cheating that just makes the entire game pointless. There are a couple players I've seen whose names are JustStopHacking and JimCrowsLaw who have a speed hack that makes them move at a speed that is probably 10X the best bunny hopper in the world, AND their titan moves at that speed as well.

To make that even worse, out of those 2 that I've seen, the one who seems to almost always be playing is JimCrowsLaw and he is constantly calling everyone the "N" word.

Therefore, even though it is still my favorite video game of all time, due to the current player environment, I cannot in good conscience recommend it at $20. If you can get it for $5, then maybe consider it.

ADDENDUM: You know what, you really bring up a good point. WHY IN THE HELL IS RESPAWN TRYING TO GET $20 FOR TF1? What really ticks me off about that is that I actually got a 2nd, 3rd and 4th copy of it, each at $5 a piece back in February of 2015 when the game had only been out for about 11 months. So, why in the hell are they trying to get $20 for it now when it is over 4 years old and they have sold the newer version for less than that at times? That really rips my gourd, because what they should have done and still should be doing just to build more interest in the franchise overall before TF3 rolls around, is to give a copy of TF1 for free to anyone who purchases or has purchased TF2. This would allow those who bought TF2 to get a feel for what TF1 was like and at the same time it would at least provide a much needed boost to the TF1 player base. The other reason this makes a whole hell of a lot of sense now is because even if someone who only played TF2 played it on a PS4, almost everyone also has a computer and since TF1 is now over 4 years old, most computers off the shelf could handle TF1.

FYI - ensc1 - EA determines the pricing as the publisher - Respawn does not. They get a percentage of whatever EA makes off the game, but EA decides pricing.

Jumped on this morning NZ time for a blat, was stoked to get some ATT & CTF matches down range, was awesome. Good to see you can still get in game after all this time! WW2 is almost dead now Oceania!
