can't join matches/games

    there is this infinite endless loop waiting and waiting forever to join in multiplayer, i see the nicknames people playing but i can't enter :s

    Same thing Derrame. This is what I feared. All they had to do was leave things exactly the way they were in TF1, but make sure numbers and skill levels of both teams were as even as possible. I'm a computer programmer and that is easy to do. You just have to want to do it. But NOOOOOOOOOOO, we have go trying all this fancy schmancy Network nonsense bullcrap, which is only going to segregate the community. Then, to make it worse, they add the factions, so now you have to pick 1 of 6 factions and can't be on a team but with people of the same faction, so that segregates it even worse. SO REDICULOUS!!! I was worried about the long game, 1 or 2 years down the road I want to be able to get in a game quickly. But holy cow, if it is day one, and you are probably going to have the most users excited to play as you are ever going to have and you are not put into a game as fast as you can snap your fingers, then whoever worked on what they think is "matchmaking" and this network/faction bullcrap should all be given their walking papers, because they did a horrible job.

    Plus, on top of that, how stupid is it that when you finish one game your thrown back into the whole jar of M&Ms and your probably not going to have any of the same people in the next game. AND, it destroys the continuity of the chat window. Maybe you want to give your teammates an atta boy or talk smack to the other team. NOPE, their gone. SOOOOOOO STUPID!!!

    But WAIT, I can hear it coming now, some bozo who thinks this Network crap is great is going to say, well you should just form a network with the people you want to play with and then you are playing the same people and don't have to wait. NO idiot. I don't want to play with the same boring group when I plan on playing for 1 or 2 years. I want the general population network to just get put into games as they did in TF1, but just an effort to keep numbers even and skill levels even. But once we are in, then for that session we will pretty much keep the same 12 people in a game and our chat can have some continuity.

    I know what the problem is. And again, I'm saying this as a computer programmer, and not only that, but one who laid out all of the logic for a matchmaking algorithm for the developers all over this site and over a year a ago on the previous Respawn/Titanfall site.

    PROBLEM STATEMENT:
    The problem is programmers who don't understand the problem and/or are too lazy to fix the problem and I will make my case.

    ANALYZING TITANFALL 1 FIRST:
    As far as getting in games and matchmaking, what was wrong with TF1? There was no problem getting in games, even 2-1/2 years down the road with a tiny user base. Also, once you were in a game in TF1 (even with random strangers), it was nice that you could for the most part, remain with those same strangers for your entire 1 to 2 hour session. There was continuity there in the players during that session and continuity in the game chat (could give atta boys or talk smack to same group). The problem was that it was glaringly obvious that not one minute was spent on creating a matchmaking algorithm for TF1. Hence you regularly saw lopsided games, both in numbers of players and skill levels of players. For example, it was not uncommon to see 5 Gen 10s playing against 3 Gen 1s. REDICULOUS! If you had even a shred of a matchmaking algorithm, you would never allow that to happen. By allowing this to happen, that contributed to killing the user base, because who the hell wants to stick around if you are one of those Gen 1s getting stomped?

    THEY WERE AWARE AND DID SOMETHING:
    There was a huge outcry about this non-existent matchmaking algorithm, and they heard it, but what should they have done? And then, what did they actually do instead?

    WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE:
    They should have left the game entry system the same and the continuity the same once you were in a game. The only thing they should have messed with was adding an actual matchmaking algorithm as I've laid out in link above to insure even numbers and even skill levels on both sides. THAT'S IT! If they had done that, it would be perfect and then I would want them spending their time and energy now on focussing on putting pressure on Sony and Microsoft to allow the player pools to be combined so that PS4 players are not segregated from PC/XBOX players. Combining those would increase the general pool of players games are pulled from for both sides.

    WHAT DID THEY DO INSTEAD:
    With regard to whether they've added a matchmaking algorithm or not, I honestly don't have enough information to determine that yet, but I do have a theory I will share below. So, whether they did the one thing they should have done is still a question mark to me. However, I can see what they did do, and it is not good. They've taken everything that was good and destroyed it.
    1) Can you get into a game immediately (lopsided or not) even when you have the most users excited about the game that you are ever going to have? NO! - so TF1 was better, so TF2 is a downgrade in this regard
    2) Once in a game, can you have continuity and basically challenge the same 12 players (some switching sides between games) for your entire 1 to 2 hour session? NO! - so TF1 was better, so TF2 is a downgrade in this regard
    3) Once in a game, can you have continuity in the game chat window, where you start a conversation with some strangers, and continue it over the course of the 1 or 2 hour session? NO - so TF1 was better, so TF2 is a downgrade in this regard
    4) They have segregated the community by adding Networks, which makes the general population user base smaller. so TF1 was better, so TF2 is a downgrade in this regard
    5) To take it further, they have even segregated the general population user base into 6 factions, making it harder to get full teams. so TF1 was better, so TF2 is a downgrade in this regard
    6) In TF1 if you had 4 players, 2 on each side, the game would usually start. Now, it doesn't seem to start unless you have full teams. so TF1 was better, so TF2 is a downgrade in this regard

    MY THEORY:
    1) Back to the problem statement: "The problem is programmers who don't understand the problem and/or are too lazy to fix the problem"
    2) With that in mind, they didn't see it as a problem that the numbers or skill levels were imbalanced. When they hear the word "matchmaking", all their little pea brains think it means is, "oh, people want to get in a game as fast as possible", and to take it further, I think specifically what their pea brains hear is "oh, people want to get in a game as fast as possible with their friends". Do people want those things? SURE! Those would be great. BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT MATCHMAKING IS ALL ABOUT!!! Matchmaking is insuring even numbers of players and even skill levels on both sides to have a fair and competitive match.
    3) So, rather than doing the hard work of creating an actual matchmaking algorithm, which I've even laid the logic out for them, instead they thought they could solve their WHOLE pea brain interpretation of what the "matchmaking" problem was by creating these glorified Friends groups with the fancy schmancy name "Networks". Oooohh, just so exciting. NOT!!! So, in their mind, this solved the WHOLE "matchmaking" problem, because now you can "get in a game as fast as possible with your friends". WRONG ANSWER!!!
    a) That in and of itself does not solve the numbers and skill level balance that would actually be matchmaking, it is just the developers using a glorified friends group to put a bandaid on a non-existent matchmaking system and claim they improved matchmaking.
    b) EVEN WORSE, it segregates the user base into hundreds or thousands of little glorified Friends Groups, which removes users from the general population pool.
    4) AND THIS IS THE ONE THAT REALLY TICKS ME OFF: If you were to present them with what I claim are 6 downgrades in "WHAT DID THEY DO INSTEAD" above, they would claim that I could solve all of this by just creating my own Network of people I wanted to play with. WRONG ANSWER!!!
    a) I plan on playing a game for 1, 2 or 3 years down the road. I don't want to play with the same boring, tired people all that time. Part of the joy of playing is putting your skill set up against ever changing strangers and see how you match up.
    b) Even if I chose to join a Network, that doesn't solve the problem for the general population who doesn't want to play in a Network.

    I feel for you Derrame. I really do. And I also appreciate you starting this thread, because you are absolutely right they need to do something about this. Honestly, I'm shocked that more people aren't outraged.

    I feels the pain. I can't even join the server. Every time I click on matchmaking, it stays in the loading screen for a long time then it says (error Server timed out). I just got this game yesterday for my ps4, and I can't even play. Can somebody please help. Am I the only one with this stupid issue.

    Ahh, Derrame, look at this. Here is a PS4 player having an issue too. Sorry Vito, Derrame and I have been posting about this in several different threads the last couple days and in one of the other threads Derrame suggested that perhaps PS4 players were on different servers and might not be having a problem. So, it looks like PS4 players are also having the problem. I'm sorry you are struggling with this as well Vito. Hope they do something about this.

    I don't even know if im the only one. I can't find anyone online having the same issue on PS4. This is like the third time I've reinstalled the game. Im going to try it again, because I was really looking forward to the multiplayer after the reviews. Other multiplayer games work fine. Its just this one that won't work. I can't even connect to EA's servers. This is frustrating

    Man, that sucks Vito! I'm on the phone right now with my one buddy, because he bought the game and installed it on his PC and has been trying to troubleshoot for the last 10 hours. He keeps getting a "Failed to load the launcher.dll" error. I sent him mine and he replaced it, but is still having issues. Now, we got him a PC Repair Kit application and he is trying that right now.

    I found out the problem. Basically ps4 users have to disbale there firewall on their router if they are using a belkin router.
